"The scenic design throughout the production was stunning. From the opening scene, complete with a six-horse, cast-powered carousel and a fully-lit 'Carousel' sign, to the woods with falling blossoms to the shore of the island after a clambake, every single scene was magically brought to life in vivid detail. Designers Joey Welden and Wes Schultz used levels, props, and set structures to create a dynamic world for their cast's characters to inhabit. They had a marvelous space to use, and they maximized the benefit of that space with their sets. The lighting design was the real hero of the design elements in this show. Joey Welden's use of lighting was so deliberate throughout the show, and it enhanced the most poignant moments in such beautiful ways that the lights themselves were almost characters on the stage. From the first moment that Billy and Julie saw each other at the carousel with spotlights fixed upon them both, the lights truly helped to tell the story. Every key moment was beautifully highlighted by the lighting, from the first kiss of our lead couple or the warmth of the finale as Julie and Louise finally realize they have the whole world and the rest of their lives ahead of them. The space had a wide variety of lighting configurations, which helped to create the vivid lighting sequences that were so effective."
